‘I HAVE PLANS FOR YOUR LIFE’ – GOD (Jeremiah 29:11)

“‘I HAVE PLANS FOR YOUR LIFE’ – GOD” (Jer. 29:11)
JEREMIAH SERIES MESSAGE #10
FBC Earlville 8-30-15 10:30 AM Rev. J.B. Stopford, Pastor

INTRODUCTION
Read 29:1-14 For September 6, could you read Jeremiah 31:3 and check out a great theme for our communion fellowship next week.
Did you notice the sermon title is in quotations. It is God speaking. Do we understand God’s plans? We understand man’s plans. Illustration: a trip to Maine. Let’s go! Bring your friends. And when you get there, you have no reservations and no money. No plans. That would be a foolish way to take a trip. Yet is it possible that many of us live as if we have no plans, no purposes, no spiritual directions? Aren’t you glad God doesn’t act like that with us? He has plans. He has purposes. He has our eternity in mind! PRAYER

# 1 GOD’S PLANS FOR JUDAH (Jeremiah 29:11)
a. A letter to give the captives in Babylon a fresh vision (v. 1)
Why were they in captivity? They had NO REST: for themselves or for the land (2 Chron. 36:20-21). Do YOU rest? Have YOU rested?
2 rests for the believer today:
(1) Salvation rest – I’ve rested from my works and I trust Jesus ONLY (Titus 3:5a) Easy as ABC: ADMIT I’m a sinner BELIEVE in the Lord Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection CONFESS to God and before others you love Jesus!
(2) Sabbath rest – not for obedience to the law but for your physical and spiritual health (Hebrews 4, especially v. 9)

b. An encouragement to be a blessing (vs. 4-9) Bless where you’re planted!

c. A wisdom to think “long term” (v. 10) see also Daniel 9:1-2

d. A challenge that God thinks purposefully. (Romans 8:28-29)

# 2 GOD’S PLANS FOR YOU – just a taste of “plans” in the Bible!
Psalm 20:4 God’s plans are governed by His DESIGN for your life [“May
He give you the desire of your heart and make all your PLANS
succeed.”]

Prov. 16:3 God’s plans are bathed in PRAYER [Commit to the Lord
whatever you do, and He will establish your PLANS.]

Prov. 19:21 God’s plans are guided by SCRIPTURE [There are many PLANS in
a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will
stand.]

Prov. 21:5 God’s plans need DILIGENCE [The PLANS of the diligent lead
surely to plenty, but those of everyone who is hasty, surely
to poverty. NIV]
Steady plodding brings prosperity; hasty speculation brings
poverty. [TLB]

Isa. 29:15 God’s plans are always HOLY [“Woe to those who go to great
depths to hide their PLANS from the Lord, who do their work
in darkness and think, “Who sees us? Who will know?”]

CONCLUSION: GOD’S PLANS FOR HIS SON (Mark 15:1)
Did you know: 4/5 New Testament uses of “plans” revolve around the cross, the other one with Paul’s “plans” for travel!
Mark 15:1 “Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their PLANS. So they bound Jesus, led Him away and handed Him over to Pilate.”
The world’s plans were to crucify Christ; and they want to crucify Christ in you. But God’s plans are to lift Him HIGH, and He wants to do that in those who are surrendered to Him. Can we be those who are so surrendered?
Have you entered His salvation rest? Are you surrendered to His plans for you?
